México Visto Desde Lejos

Can the view—or review—of our country be more objective and accurate if done from afar? To which extent is a foreigner more sensitive and understanding of our political and social reality when living amongst us? Is it possible to summarize both points of view in order to analyze our weaknesses without aggravating our traditional sensitivity to foreign opinions? These are some of the questions that are sure to arise in the mind of the reader when working their way through the texts by eleven Mexicans—residents or travelers at different times and for different purposes—, compiled by Samuel Schmidt in order to elucidate these and other questions of our nationality.
