Conversion De Pulpa Y Mucilago Del Cafe En Vermicomposta Mediante El Uso De La Lombriz Eisenia Foetida

The objective of the investigation is to obtain information for the establishment of a vermicompost system for the coffee processing in Puerto Rico. A complete randomized block design was used with four treatments for a period of 17 weeks. The densities studied were 0, 3, 5 and 7 kg of worms (Eisenia foetida ) per cubic meter of coffee pulp. There was no significant difference in the amount of vermicompost produced. The chemical analysis carried out to the substrates established that they had 4% of N, 1% of P and 10% of K. There was no considerable difference between the chemical analysis of the vermicompost and the traditional compost. The mortality rate of the treatments was from 85 to 95% at harvest time and no reproduction was observed. More research is needed about the production of vermicompost with coffee pulp in the Island.
